Who was Luigi Roni

Luigi Roni was born on February 22, 1942 and was originally from Calomini di Vergemoli (Lucca), a village in the Serchio Valley where he lived, from which at the end of the fifties he went on foot to the railway station just to study music. Graduated from the Boccherini Institute, at the age of 22 he won the Adriano Belli competition in Spoleto and began his career as an opera singer, in which he made his debut (it was 1969) with the director Claudio Abbado, at La Scala. He collaborated with the Milanese theater for several years until 2010 and worked with the greatest conductors and with opera singers such as Pavarotti, Domingo, Carreras.

The international career

Roni had performed in his ten-year career in the largest theaters in Italy and the world, in Tokyo, Moscow, Amsterdam, Oslo, London, Paris, Berlin, Bonn, Copenhagen, Madrid, Lisbon, Zurich, Zurich, Geneva, Johannesburg, Pretoria, in North and South America. His last performance at the Metropolitan dates back to 2016. He leaves his son Claudio with whom he shared Calomini’s house.
