Coronavirus also stops lotteries, slot machines and all competitions run by state monopolies such as Lotto and Superenalotto. On the night when Premier Giuseppe Conte announces the closure of all non-essential activities (here is a list of those that should remain open), the Customs and Monopolies Agency sanctions one of the favorite activities of Italians: that of gambling.

The decision comes during the evening of Saturday and is announced with a press release published on the official web portal of the Customs and Monopolies Agency. In the rather short press note, they are listed all competitions suspended for theCoronavirus emergency and explained the rationale that led the State Monopolies to decree their stop.

The aim is to avoid gatherings inside tobacconists that, even after the last announcement by the Prime Minister, remain open as one of the essential activities. By eliminating slot machines and games such as Lotto and Superenalotto, it is hoped to be able to avoid creating groups of people inside tobacconists waiting for draws or to play some coupons.

What are the suspended games and contests for Coronavirus

In the press note of the Customs and Monopolies Agency it is possible to obtain the complete list of competitions that are suspended due to COVID-19. Since yesterday evening it is no longer possible to play with:

  • electronic devices of the type “slot machines“;
  • Lotto, Superenalotto, Superstar, Sivincetutto Superenalotto, including their online versions;
  • Eurojackpot, including its online version;
  • all the lotteries and bets which involve certification by the staff of the Customs and Monopolies Agency.

The suspension has immediate effect for slot machines, for the Eurojackpot and for the online versions of the games that require a draw. For Lotto and Superenalotto, however, the suspension applies from the end of the competitions on Saturday 21 March until further notice.

What happens to the Superenalotto jackpot?

The suspension of games and draws obviously implies a “freezing” of competitions. This means that the Superenalotto jackpot will not be canceled, nor is it destined to disappear.

The game’s prize pool is frozen until you can return to play: the Superenalotto jackpot, therefore, remains stuck at the 36.3 million euros reached following thelast night’s draw.
