Bauke Mollema (Trek) won the Lombardy Tour solo in Como. The 32-year-old Dutchman has celebrated the greatest success of his career, with the beard of favorites.
Mollema attacked Civiglio, penultimate difficulty of the day, 18.5 km from the finish. He could quickly take 30 seconds in advance, taking advantage of the marking between the favorites behind him.
The Dutchman crossed the line 16 '' ahead of Spanish veteran Alejandro Valverde and Colombian Egan Bernal, the winner of the Tour de France. So far, Mollema had only won a significant one-day race, in this case the Clasica San Sebastian in 2016.
The Netherlands had no longer had a winning rider in Lombardy since 1981. Former world champion Hennie Kuiper was then 38 years ago.
