This new scam has the form of a classic text message with a fraudulent link. It is called WhatsApp Greetings and is similar to the app when the user has just registered and must check his phone number. This format includes a link and once the person enters it, they can suffer the hacking of their account.
The modality applies to phones with iOS and Android, where cybercriminals aim to appropriate accounts, access your conversations and personal information.
A sign that the victim fell into the trap is that he will not be able to re-enter WhatsApp and receive the following notification: Your number is not registered in this phone. This is probably because you registered your number in WhatsApp on a different phone.
One solution to the hoax is to click on Verify to receive the true verification code and enter it manually instead of clicking on the link.
Similarly, ideally, if we do not ask for a code to verify our WhatsApp account, we should not open a link sent to us by text message. In addition there is the modality of telephone call provided by the code and, in that case, it is important not to share those digits with anyone.
Specialists recommend that it is always safer to enter this type of verification code by hand and activate it in two steps, in order to add another security element to the instant messaging platform.
