FCA has announced the arrival, on its cars, of a new version of the infotainment system: Uconnect 5. This is an important update which, in addition to adding integration with Alexa, it introduces wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In particular, FCA has improved the Uconnect hardware, which now features a 50 MIP chip (millions of instructions per second) with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. The new system also supports larger, higher resolution displays up to 12.3 inches in UHD resolution. According to FCA, this new hardware, guarantees 5 times better performance than the previous configuration.

Thanks to the integration with Alexa, it will then be possible to control all the car’s functions via voice commands. Not only that, with the home-to-car and car-to-home functions, in fact, it will also be possible to control the car or home remotely and, for example, turn on the heating before entering the home or unlock and lock the car directly from the living room.

The new Uconnect 5 also includes all TomTom services such as maps, traffic and speed camera reporting. FCA, finally, said it also improved support for OTA software updates which, in the previous version, had some problems.

Uconnect 5 will be available for all FCA group cars: Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Maserati, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and Abarth. For those who have Uconnect 4 it will be possible to perform the update but, obviously, the changes will be only software.
