There is great expectation for the official debut of the new Fiat 500 Elettrica. The new electric city car of the Italian brand, as officially confirmed yesterday, it will be unveiled in public at the Geneva Motor Show, on March 3rd. Production will begin in the following months with the commercial debut which is scheduled for the second half of the current year (at least for the European market).

In addition to the 500 Elettrica, the Fiat brand is planning a second novelty for 2020. Official confirmation came from the number one brand for the EMEA area, Luca Napolitano, which confirmed the launch of a “Unexpected new model”Over the next few months, without however revealing any details regarding the nature of the project.

For now, the only official detail is the launch window. The new model will arrive in the second half of 2020 and, considering the absence of information arriving from Italian plants, it may not be implemented in our country. Certainly, the hypotheses regarding the characteristics of the new Fiat model are certainly not lacking and some more details could arrive in the course of the next weeks, perhaps at the Geneva Motor Show, on the sidelines of the presentation of the 500 Elettrica

Fiat’s upcoming projects

Considering the rumors of the last few months, it is possible to get a very precise idea about what are the projects under development for the future of the Fiat brand. During the next month of April, on the occasion of2020 edition of the Istanbul Motor Show, there will be the debut of the new Fiat Egea restyling, version reserved for the Turkish market of the Fiat Tipo (produced in Turkey).

L’mid-career update of the Fiat Tipo, which will introduce the new mild hybrid engines and an important upgrade for the interior of the passenger compartment as well as a revision of the external bodywork, will arrive in Europe during the second half of the year. Despite the timing of launch coincide, the restyling of the Tipo can certainly not be considered as the “unexpected new model” arriving in the coming months from Fiat.

Among the rumors of these months there has been talk of the new Fiat 500 Giardiniera, a model that could take the place of the 500L, which is nearing the end of his career due to the past success in recent years. The model could be produced in Kragujevac, Serbia, where the 500L is made today.

In recent months there has also been talk of a restyling of the Fiat Panda and the new Fiat 500 Serie 8 (a mixture of restyling and the new generation of the 500). Again, these are long-awaited projects to update the two city cars that have just received the first mild hybrid variants and certainly not unexpected models capable of surprising fans of the sector and the Fiat brand.

Fiat Centoventi Concept CES 2020

On the table of hypotheses remains the standard version of the Fiat Centoventi Concept, the small zero-emission city car unveiled as a prototype at the Geneva Motor Show last year and recently re-launched at CES 2020 last January. Fiat has confirmed in the past the desire to launch a standard version of the Centoventi (the starting platform is the same as the 500 Elettrica) but past rumors spoke of a possible launch in 2021, when the production of the 500 Elettrica will now be fully operational .

We cannot exclude that the new Fiat model expected for the second half of 2020 is a completely new and truly “unexpected” project. The Italian brand, after a difficult 2019, needs an important update for its range and the 500 Elettrica alone, however important, will not be enough to boost the brand’s sales.

More details about the new Fiat models will certainly arrive in the coming weeks. As mentioned above, the first confirmations on the new project may already arrive at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Keep following us to find out more.
