A record auction for the 'manifesto' of the birth of the modern Olympics. The document, written in 1892 by the French baron Pierre de Coubertin, was sold by Sotheby's in New York for 8.8 million dollars. A figure that has tore up the old record set by the baseball legend Babe Ruth, sold last June for 5.6 million dollars. The 'manifesto' is autographed and is the only original copy known to exist. In the 14 pages that constitute it, the founder of the modern Olympic Games outlined his will to revive the ancient sporting competition. Four years later, in 1896, that idea became reality with the first games in Athens.
