What is there and what is missing
All 78 sluice gates that form the four barriers at the port inlets of Lido (two sections side by side), Malamocco and Chioggia were laid. The technical buildings and the control room were built at the mouth of the port of Malamocco, next to the Rocchetta pilots tower which is the control tower of the entire port.
Missing accessory plants, such as some compressor batteries, furnishings, elevators, various pipelines, numerous hydraulic actuators.
The barriers are operated on an experimental basis but the final tests are missing, the control booth and the authorization procedure for opening and closing the mobile dams are missing.
The various lifting tests were successful but the experiment at the Malamocco mouth scheduled for Monday 4 November had been suspended due to anomalies in some pipelines, which entered into vibration.

The current schedule is as follows:
● 30 June 2020 – end of construction of final plants and start of operation.
● December 31, 2021 – delivery of the works and start of management
At present all four barriers of the Mose system (Treporti, San Nicolò, Malamocco and Chioggia) are moved in safe mode for
● to test the global functioning of electromechanical works (in the absence of marine meteoric forcing, ie only in calm sea conditions) to check whether there are substantial problems;
● measure system performance (such as handling times);
● guarantee the maintenance of the system through periodic lifting activities (in order to keep the technological systems active and run in as far as possible limiting the accumulation of sediments).

Operation in "provisional mode" is allowed today through the use of a minimum number of systems (mainly mechanical, electrical and control) with reduced potential and without the redundancies and safety provided by the system in its final configuration, and the systems are missing auxiliaries (such as the Hvac plant, the fire extinguishing system and so on) that will be completed in the coming months.

What is Mose for?
Venice, a world heritage site, is one of the symbols of the world, along with the Colosseum of Rome, the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Statue of Liberty in New York. It is visited every year by more than 20 million people (plus a few million do-it-yourself visitors who escape the statistics).

There are dozens of imitations in the world: one of many, the fake Venice built in the Doha Village shopping center, in Qatar on the Persian Gulf, where a canal with bridges was dug under a cloud-plastered sky on which plastic gondolas slide with electric motor full of tourists and led by Pakistani gondoliers with a straw hat and a sad air.
But Venice is destined to disappear. Maybe in 50 years or 500 years. The Mose serves to make Venice take the time necessary for the remote future when there will be better and definitive technologies.
