The decision comes after a very difficult season for the Honda driver: having arrived at the Japanese house after the experience at Ducati, Lorenzo did not find the feeling with the new bike at all. To make his year even more difficult, a back injury was added to Assen, from which he has not yet recovered.

The 2019 represents the lowest year (just 25 points gained, 19th place in the world) of a brilliant career: five world titles won in career, of which two in 250 and three in MotoGp: the last in 2015 after a battle with Valentino Rossi that has transcended the challenge on the track and that was probably the reason why at the end of 2016 he left Yamaha to try the adventure in Ducati. With the home of Borgo Panigale, in two seasons, Lorenzo has won three victories and four podiums, but despite the fact that in the second year his results have improved considerably, Rossa has decided not to renew his contract, leaving him free to go to Honda.
