"Underwater Venice: the fault of global warming or political inadequacy?"

"Dear Union,

what is happening in Venice (very high water, floods, destroyed houses and shops, devastation to the architectural and artistic heritage) has triggered real or presumed experts on the reasons for the disaster.

Many argue that the predictions of the hardest and purest environmentalists are coming true, the followers of Greta to help us, who in front of the images of Piazza San Marco under water do not hesitate to thunder: 'See? If we don't make a move, it will be more and more often, if not worse.

That with the climate one does not mess around is a well established fact and that there is much to be done to make our life more ecological and eco-friendly, it is a sacrosanct wish.

We forget, however, in the case of Venice, but not only, a small detail. There is a project – the Mose – thought years ago precisely to prevent this type of emergency. A system conceived, rather than for the risks of climate change, for the very conformation of the Lagoon that puts Venice at risk, and not since yesterday, but for centuries. This project is still at stake, despite the billions spent, for bureaucracies and delays, without counting the judicial inquiries.

So, you want to blame global warming, which also exists. The real problem is that in Italy every infrastructure project aimed at avoiding catastrophes finds a hindrance in the inequality, cumbersome, slowness and greed of the political-organizational-infrastructural machine. With the results, often tragic, which – unfortunately – are there for all to see.
