The circle around Matteo Messina Denaro is increasingly tightened. I'm 5 people arrested from the financiers of the Gico of Palermo and from the carabinieri of the Ros and between these figure Antonello Nicosia, 48, originally from Sciacca, champion of the rights of prisoners.
It was on him that, according to investigators, they could count the bosses close to the super-fugitive. But there's more, being the collaborator of Pina Occhionero, a member of the Italia Viva parliament, went to the jails of Sciacca, Agrigento, Trapani and Tolmezzo (in the province of Udine) and during the inspections, according to the investigators, Nicosia would receive messages from the bosses to be delivered outside. The suspect exploited the collaboration with Occhionero because it entered the prisons without the prior authorization of the Penitentiary Administration Department and this exploiting the prerogatives recognized by the rules on the prison organization to the members of the Parliament and to those who accompany them.
La Occhionero, a 41-year-old lawyer from Molise, was elected in the last political elections on the lists of Leu and recently Renzi's party was transferred to Italia Viva. The deputy is not currently under investigation, but will be heard by prosecutors in Palermo as a witness.
The investigation, conducted by Ros and Gico, is coordinated by the Palermo prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi, the added Paolo Guido and the prosecutors Gery Ferrara and Francesca Dessì. The interceptions showed that Nicosia defined the Capaci massacre in which Giovanni Falcone died "an accident at work" and for Matteo Messina Denaro used words like "Prime Minister".
Intercepted for months by Ros and Gico della Finanza, speaking on the phone, he made contemptuous judgments about the judge killed by the Mafia in Capaci in 1992: he also said that "since he had gone to the Ministry of Justice more than the magistrate he was a politician" . A vulgar language used by Antonello Nicosia.
Nicosia, according to magistrates, would not have confined itself to acting as a liaison between the prisoners and the gangs but he would run business in partnership with the Sciacca Accursio Dimino boss, 61 years old, fish entrepreneur and former professor of physical education, also among those arrested. The man was already convicted of mafia association: over time, he was "recruiter of new adepts", to become, in the first decade of the 2000s, head of the Sciacca mafia family.
Dimino, in the 90s, had a central role in the development of ultra-provincial association dynamics, maintaining contacts and conveying "pizzini" with the Corleonese, in particular with Riina Salvatore and Brusca Giovanni and from the investigative activities the contacts with the the mafia fugitive Matteo Messina Denaro. And, since his release, the relationships maintained with mafia subjects operating in the territory of Sciacca, Castellammare del Golfo and with some characters considered adjoining to the Gambino mafia family in New York have been documented.
Dimino in particular, he related to a subject with whom he had planned a criminal activity which was not subsequently completed due to the sudden murder in New York on March 13th of Frank Calì, a leading exponent of the aforementioned family Italian-American mafia.
Dimino would have exerted "pressure on local entrepreneurs to allow companies associated with their associates to obtain contracts, credit recovery activities for the benefit of subjects linked to men of honor, intentions of damage and other criminal activities towards different subjects for purposes of extortion ".
Investigations have also revealed that in the past man has represented, in the past, the hardest wing of the family to which he belongs, being part of the "triumvirate", the historic firing group operating in the 1990s Sciacca.
With Dimino, Nicosia used to meet and together they would do business with American clans and launder dirty money. Murder projects would also emerge from some interceptions.
With Nicosia (already known as a final sentence of 10 years and 6 months imprisonment for participation in an association aimed at drug trafficking, released for over 10 years) and Dimino three other people ended up in handcuffs: Massimiliano Mandracchia, Paolo and Luigi Ciaccio. Offices, shops and houses were searched in the availability of those arrested. Seized from suspected financial assets, including a credit card linked to foreign accounts, and assets, including a boat.
Surveys have shown, among other things, a meeting, held in February 2019 in Porto Empedocle, between Nicosia and two mafia convicts of which a trusted companion of the fugitive Messina Denaro, during which the three spoke of the fugitive to whom a sum of money was to be destined that the interlocutors were doing their utmost to recover and, furthermore, the investigators pointed out the Nicosia's commitment to the realization of an undefined project that, afferent to the prison sector, directly interested Messina Denaro from which the suspect, for the work carried out, expected to receive a huge financing.
Nicosia, spending teaching titles also international, as well as belonging to the National Committee of the Italian Radicals and director of the Onlus International Observatory of Human Rights (OIDU), he worked in the welfare sector of the prison sector, accessing some detention centers and having relations with prison workers. The suspect, over time, tried to favor some prisoners including Filippo Guttadauro (brother-in-law of the fugitive, currently interned on a security basis – home work at the Tolmezzo District Prison and still subject to the detention regime pursuant to Article 41 bis O.P.).
In the first episode of his television program and via the web "Half an hour of air", titled Security Measures – the Tolmezzo case and transmitted by a local broadcaster, interviewed a lawyer with whom he paused to quibble about an alleged anti-constitutionality of the procedure for the application of security measures (phenomenon of the so-called "white life sentences") with particular regard to the internees subjected to Article 41 bis OP of the Prison District of Tolmezzo, where Filippo Guttadauro is restricted.
