With a length of 4,850 mm, a height of 1,550 mm, a wheelbase of 3,000 mm and the high ground clearance typical of SUVs, Futuron offers a slim car body that conveys a strong sense of dynamism. The electric powertrain also contributes to making such bold shapes possible. The high-capacity battery is mounted under the floor and provides electricity to the four powerful electric motors, one per wheel.
The new Concept Kia is equipped with LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology, a suite of sensors capable of providing Level 4 autonomous driving functions, allowing the vehicle to proceed autonomously and "hands free" in most of the conditions. The lighting systems that surround almost the entire exterior adopt new playful and interactive features, capable of reacting to the stimuli of the external environment and arousing a close connection between vehicle and passengers, even before getting on board.
In the front section, Futuron Concept presents a new reinterpretation of the now iconic "tiger nose", the Kia design signature for over a decade. While maintaining the broad identity of the front that is common to the models in the range, the designers have expanded the boundaries, extended the form to create a new idea of "tiger face". The front recalls that of the Imagine electric concept presented by Kia at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, and underlines the stylistic research and evolution of design that anticipates the future electric models of the brand.
Thanks to the extended “tiger face”, the Futuron grid incorporates the headlights that adopt the innovative Star Cloud design for the first time, giving the car a new and sparkling luminous signature. Star Cloud not only stylistically underlines the new shape of the front, but also embodies a new lighting concept for Kia, which draws inspiration from the nebulae visible in the night sky, creating a luminous mosaic thanks to matrix LED technology. The Star Cloud luminous signature also characterizes the rear of the car, making Futuron absolutely unique.
It is also a tribute to Chinese culture, thanks to a luminous surface whose "Dragon Skin" treatment is reminiscent of the scaly skin of the dragon, with its shining armor one of the most common animals in Chinese mythology and culture.
The Futuron electric powertrain, integrated with Level 4 autonomous driving systems, has allowed the creation of a spacious and flexible passenger compartment. The two front seats are made of flexible materials that allow you to move from a vertical driving position to a reclined "resting" position, a solution that closely resembles the flexibility and comfort offered by airlines in first-class seats.
With the activation of the autonomous driving functions, the two front seats recline, while the steering wheel retracts, reducing fatigue on long journeys.
The interiors of Futuron reflect the highly technological nature typical of autonomous driving, with surfaces that run uninterruptedly from the dashboard through the door panels without interruption. The doors reproduce the Star Cloud lighting with the same motifs found outside the car, creating a very suggestive interactive environment. The ventilation system is integrated into the Dragon Skin scale pattern.
One of the most important features of the passenger compartment is the cockpit that surrounds the driver. The special graphical user interface (GUI) extends from the driver's side door to envelop the area around the steering wheel in a continuous arc. In this way the instrument panel is one with the display in the center of the dashboard, in turn connected to the integrated display inside the surface of the steering wheel itself. The GUI interface is made possible by artificial intelligence and is able to show a lot of useful information on the car and on autonomous driving functions, on the powertrain and on navigation.
