Great maneuvers in the computer world. According to the Wall Street Journal, Xerox is evaluating the acquisition of Hp. It would be a mixed proposal between paper and cash. An operation worth about $ 27 billion.
The printer company would have discussed the operation on Tuesday's board of directors. At present, however, the US financial newspaper specifies, there is no certainty that the evaluation of the board will then follow the formalization of a concrete offer. Both companies, according to the US financial newspaper, have not commented on the matter.
Beyond the event itself it must be remembered that Xerox, just last Monday, announced that it will sell its 25% stake in Fuji Xerox (a joint venture with Fujifilm). The signal that the printer company, which in the third quarter of 2019 reported revenues in the printer sector down by 5%, is moving on the front of extraordinary operations to give "propellant" to its business.
"This is an operation that has its strategic sense," explains Carlo Alberto Carnevale Maffe, professor of business strategy at SDA Bocconi. "Xerox is a company – the expert explains – which has essentially two souls. The first, the historic one, is the printers' business, which is currently focused on the professional segment and, to be precise, a little consolidated. "Then there is the world of services such as, for example, those for document management in companies". Well: with this move the company could, «on the one hand, integrate the offer on printers with HP products that are aimed at retail; and, on the other hand, to extend its product range with hardware (among others in PCs) made by HP itself ».
In short: an offer that seeks integration and product synergies, economies of scale and a lever for growth.
