The new measures that attempt to limit gaming addiction will be adopted throughout the nation, prohibiting video games in certain time slots

The news, which appeared on CNN in Hong Kong, talks about guidelines that will affect all gaming platforms and will affect the whole country.

Players under the age of 18 they will not be able to access video games in a time slot between 22:00 and 08:00, at which time one of the highest peaks of videogame activity is usually recorded. A limit of three hours a day was instead imposed for weekends and holidays, in order to sharply counteract the dependence on gaming and gambling, whose cases are multiplying around the world.

In this regard, the new regulation also sets a maximum limit within which players will be able to make online transactions: for younger users, included in an age range between 8 and 16, the maximum fee will be around 2oo yuan per month (about 25 euros), while for gamers between 16 and 18 years it will amount to 400 yuan (about 50 euros) per month.

A spokesman for government news agency Xinhua said the new rules aim to create one "clear Internet space and protect the physical and mental health of children", also stressing that government units will try to set rules and ensure that gaming industry companies meet the requirements. The administration is also collaborating with national authorities to set up a registration system with real name, so as to allow the gaming companies to verify the identity of their users on a special national database recently created.

In August 2018 Beijing had already announced its intention to limit the number of new online games, with the aim of "reducing myopia in children and adolescents", after moving against a popular mobile game for allegedly causing youth dependence in 2017.
