West Nile virus infection spreads to humans through domestic mosquitoes.
Public Health is asking citizens to protect themselves against bites, but there is no case of West Nile virus infection confirmed or reported in Ottawa this year.
In Ontario, however, two cases of infection were reported in 2019. This is down from 2018, when there were 139 confirmed or probable cases in the province.
Residents of Ottawa are encouraged to dispose of all outdoor objects that may contain stagnant water in which mosquitoes can lay their eggs.
