While Apple has refocused its connected watch on the field of health for a year, it still lacked a feature to complete this expertise: the analysis of sleep. It should finally arrive with the next generation of Apple Watch.
In the field of health, the Apple Watch is a particularly complete connected watch. In addition to the number of steps taken during the day, the connected watch from Apple is able to analyze your heart rate and possible fibrillations, to follow your workouts or to encourage you to get up from time to time. Nevertheless, a feature was still missing in the call: sleep monitoring.
This gap could nevertheless be filled soon to believe the information obtained by the site 9to5Mac specialized in the news of Apple: "9to5Mac has learned from sources at Apple that the company is working on a sleep tracking for the Apple Watch that will not need specific hardware to work". According to the specialized website, the sleep tracking feature will be available next week, along with the new iPhone 11 range.
News related to the alarm
This sleep tracking function would be called "Time tracking in bed" (Time in Bed tracking in English) and would use different data to analyze the user's sleep. The Apple Watch could then use the user's movements, but also his heart rate or noises to determine the quality of sleep. This data would then be available directly in the Apple Health app or on a new Sleep app available on the Apple Watch.
Sleep monitoring would also be accompanied by new wake-up functions. Thus, if the watch detects that the user has woken up before the scheduled time of his alarm, she will deactivate it automatically. It would also be possible to activate an alarm functioning by vibration, convenient not to wake the two members of a couple for example.
A reminder to recharge the watch before sleeping
One of the problems with sleep monitoring for the Apple Watch lies in the autonomy of the watch. Given this, quite limited, many users take advantage of the night to recharge their connected watch. Apple has therefore thought of two solutions as explained by 9to5Mac: "Apple has developed a feature that will remind users to load their Watch before it can stay overnight". The other solution envisaged by Apple will concern only a handful of users: those with two Apple Watch. It should be possible to specifically designate the one worn at night, which will be dedicated to sleep analysis.
It is still unclear whether this new feature will be available on previous Apple Watch or whether it will go through a new version of the connected watch. Apple is expected to unveil a minor update to the Apple Watch next week, along with its new iPhone.
