(ANSA) – LONDON, MARCH 5 – Weakened by the vote, but (perhaps)
still in power. An unexpected defensive alliance is looming
center-right in Ireland between the two traditional parties
dominant, Micheal Martin ‘s Fianna Fail and the
outgoing premier Leo Varadkar, a month after the elections that come
he had endangered the hegemony thanks to the sensational
advance of the sinister nationalist Sinn Fein of Mary Lou
McDonald, the female leader no longer tied to the image of heir
of what was the political arm of the IRA guerrilla.
To launch the alliance proposal was Martin, whose
lineup has garnered fewer votes, but more polling stations
Sinn Fein (38 against 37) thanks to the electoral mechanism. In
an tv interview formalized the offer to Varadkar, backlog
with 35 seats and now a junior role
partner. So far the outgoing premier, first gay and father’s son
immigrant at the head of the Republic, he said he was ready for
the opposition. But there are signs of rethinking.
