The announcement that the FIA announced that it had completed Ferrari’s engine investigation in the last minute of its winter tests caused great criticism by 7 teams that did not use the Ferrari engine.

The statement from the FIA stated that the investigation of Ferrari’s engine has been completed, that Ferrari will work in cooperation with the FIA on certain issues in the future, and the agreement between the parties will remain “confidential”.

On top of that, 7 other teams made a common statement and stated that this situation was unacceptable.

The FIA’s final statement on the subject was as follows:

Following the announcement by the 7 F1 teams yesterday, the FIA wants to clarify:

Just as the FIA can do the same for every team in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, Scuderia did a detailed technical analysis of Ferrari’s Power Unit.

Due to doubts about the Scuderia Ferrari Power Unit not always working in accordance with the rules, the FIA made detailed reviews during the 2019 season. Scuderia Ferrari fiercely opposed these doubts and argued that the power unit was always working properly. Although the FIA is not completely satisfied, it has been decided that taking the incident to a higher level will not yield any consequences, due to the complexity of the incident and the financial impossibility (inability to prove) that a violation may have occurred.

In order to avoid the negative consequences of the uncertainties that will occur as a result of such long cases and to benefit the championship and its stakeholders, the FIA has decided to sign an effective and dissuasive agreement with Ferrari to terminate all transactions under Article 4 (ii) of the Judiciary and Disciplinary Rules.

This type of agreement is a legal tool that is considered as an essential component of any disciplinary system and is used by many public institutions and other sports federations to manage disputes.

Confidentiality of the terms of the settlement agreement is secured by Article 4 (vi) of the Judiciary and Disciplinary Rules.

As the rule-maker of the Formula 1 World Championship, the FIA will take all necessary measures to protect its name and sport.
