FOR THE 4X4 – The road tests remain a fundamental part in the development of a car, although modern technologies allow car manufacturers to carry out tests even in the laboratory. The road tests, and specifically those for 4×4 cars, are at the center of the fifth episode of FCA What’s Behind (Watch the video below), a series of mini-documentaries in which the Italian-American group shows the "behind the scenes" of the research and development phases of its automobiles before its entry into production.

NOT FOR EVERYONE – The most part challenging of test in off-road vehicles it is carried out either in the development center in Balocco, in the province of Vercelli, or in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, where the FCA tests some Jeeps along the demanding 35-kilometer route known as the Rubicon Trail, a track that puts a lot to the proves the adherence and sturdiness of the new models: Jeeps that pass "free" this test obtain the Trail-Rated certification, a guarantee for those who practice demanding off-road.

SPORTING OR SAFETY – In addition to the Jeep, the FCA tests the 4×4 system also of the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Stelvio and Fiat Panda 4×4. In the first case, however, the testers work to refine driving pleasure and power management, which can reach 510 hp for the Quadrifoglio version, while in the case of the Panda the tests are aimed at improving safety and ease of driving.
