"The Unione Sportiva Lecce strongly reaffirms that it suffered a serious arbitration wrong in the Lazio – Lecce championship match held on 10 November 2019. On the occasion of the possible goal 2 to 2 scored by the player Gianluca Lapadula, first validated by the Competition Director and then canceled following the intervention of the VAR, there was an evident violation of Rule 14, point 2, letter c of the Rules of the Football Game on the basis of an alleged application practice of the VAR Protocol which led to to a result not in line with the aforementioned standard. The provision clearly establishes that the penalty kick must be repeated if one or more players from each team simultaneously invade the penalty area before the ball is in play. Which is why no practice could declare the opposite. Conscious of the ethical and legal principles of the sporting order that impose respect for the result gained on the playing field and the consequent unquestionable technical decisions adopted by the competition officials, the Unione Sportiva Lecce, considers however more useful, instead of initiatives judicial proceedings that would risk running aground for formal quibbles, officially submitting to the competent bodies, on the occasion of the meeting scheduled for November 19, 2019 between AIA – CAN A and the Serie A Societies, the obvious and serious inconsistencies that emerged during the episode in question. The Unione Sportiva Lecce does not intend to promote instrumental actions in its own exclusive interest, but to collaborate with the bodies in charge in order to eliminate for the near future any uncertainty in the application of a fundamental rule of the game of football and in the collective interest of all the Clubs participating in the competitions ”.
