Ryanair is the most famous low-cost airline in Europe, but it doesn't excel in cleaning on board. Michael O'Leary, the volcanic Irish carrier boss, will not like the latest survey by the British magazine Which? Travel that defines Ryanair as the "dirtiest airline in the world". The magazine – reports the run – has examined the responses of 8,000 British travelers who have flown with over 40 companies: less than half (42%) positively assessed the cleanliness of the aircraft of the Northern European company.
The results obtained by Ryanair are anything but positive: at least a quarter of passengers (24%) say that cleaning on flights is poor. The magazine sent an editor to a series of aircraft of the company and the latter used a device with ultraviolet light to examine the hygiene on board. Result? Greasy tables, dirty headrests and dusty window sills at embarkation: "The fastest arrival times are one thing – writes Rory Boland of Which? Travel – but it is unacceptable that some airlines are cutting costs on cleaning the cabins". The device with ultraviolet light – states the magazine – shows stains on the tables that could not be seen with the naked eye: "If you are flying with Ryanair – writes Boland – a biohazard suit could be more appropriate".
The other companies
Ryanair is not the only airline to be criticized for hygiene, but none of the other carriers achieves such negative results. Even many of WizzAir's customers were hardly impressed by the cleanup, with only six out of 10 (62%) praising its hygiene. Scores are no better for those who have chosen to travel with Vueling or Iberia, with only 63% of passengers satisfied. Best results achieved by British Airways with 78% of respondents expressing positive reviews, while the results of Air New Zealand (97%), Singapore Airlines (96%), Emirates (95%), Qatar Airways (95% ), Cathay Pacific (94%) and Swiss (94%).
