On the occasion of the auditing of the third quarter, Alfa Romeo management announced the new portfolio of models for the future of the brand, highlighting the departure of (almost) all sports models.

They arrive important news following the new agreement that led to the fusion FCA-PSA: from 2022 Alfa Romeo will expand its range of vehicles with a Compact SUV with motorization PHEV hybrid. Away instead the sports, including Giulietta, GTV, 4C and 8C.

The decision to eliminate sports cars from the range of vehicles scheduled for 2022 could leave a lot of fans bitter despite the arrival of a compact SUV, but apparently the results obtained with the Alfa do not appear to be online with initial expectations. It will certainly be necessary to consider whether, with the renouncement of the more "expected" models, we will succeed in any case increase sales.

In plan outlined in 2018 from Alfa Romeo, the extension of the range had been placed as goal for the following years. The plan that included waiting (and due) Giulietta restyling, the Giulia, lo Stelvio, the GTV, the 8C and two segment E and segment C SUVs, has been almost upset. The decision to revise the planning came at the time of conference call on third quarter accounts.

In the work plan proposed by Alfa Romeo, it is reported e confirmed the arrival of the restyling of the Giulia, the Stelvio and the C-UV debut which will be available also in hybrid version. Thus the design of the long-lived Giulietta and the highly anticipated sports models disappears. What emerges from the "revision" of the previous plan is certainly a downsizing of investments, which will go that way to be reduced, giving greater importance to the models considered strengths and reducing the overlap with the new brands belonging to the group.

The Italian-American group does not hide the discouraging performances which were the assumption that led to the decision to revise the company's plans. The managing director, Mike Manley, he expressed his "disappointment".

"I'm not happy with Alfa Romeo's performance, but I remain convinced of its strength. The brand can be profitable again, even if further development will depend on the results ".
