GOOD SUVS – Four cars took part in the seventh session of the year of crash test dell 'Euro NCAP, the independent European body that verifies the safety of new cars by organizing accident simulations and dynamic tests on the track, the outcomes of which are the basis of assessments in four areas: the protection of adults, children, safety in case of investment of pedestrians or cyclists and the effectiveness of driving aids. The Ford Explorer, Mazda CX-30 and Mercedes GLB got the maximum five-star rating, while the Opel Corsa was given one less star.

FORD EXPLORER

The large SUV does not shine in the test for pedestrians (the evaluation is 61 points out of 100), due to the areas of low impact on the headlights and in the pillars. According to the Euro NCAP, the anti-investment function of the cyclists for automatic braking can also be improved. However, the results in the other areas are valid: the tests for adults have obtained an overall judgment of 87%, those for children of 86% and those for driving aids of 76%.

MAZDA CX-30

The CX-30 has touched on excellence in tests for adults, where it obtained an evaluation of the best ever: 99 points out of 100, penalized only by the less than optimal protection for the driver's (and left passenger's) shinbones ) in the head-on collision against a slightly offset barrier with respect to the front. 86% and 80% were excellent in tests for children and pedestrians, while the non-optimal functioning of the system that avoids the involuntary exit from the lane weighed 77% for driving aids.

MERCEDES GLB

The compact SUV was judged more than favorably by the Euro NCAP also in tests for pedestrians, in which it could have gone into difficulty due to the tall and massive bonnet: 78% appreciable, although the pillars and the bonnet part above the mask do not protect properly in case of investment. The Mercedes GLB obtained 92% in tests for adults, 88% in those for children and 74% in those for driving aids.

OPEL CORSA

The final four-star rating is unconvincing, because the German economy car is the "daughter" of a new project. Very disappointing 66% in tests for pedestrians: the anti-investment function of pedestrians for automatic braking can be improved, the one for cyclists absent and the windshield not very soft, although the bonnet adequately protects the pelvic area of the pedestrians hit. So also 69% in the tests for driving aids, and not even 84% shine in the tests for adults: the Euro NCAP has recorded not negligible damages to the bust of the front passengers in frontal collisions and in the neck in the rear-end collisions . Appreciable, on the other hand, 86% in tests for children.
