The question that many people ask themselves these days is: why do all this talk about company cars? To read the news reports, it would seem that in Italy it is a matter of national importance. And, in hindsight, it's not like that at all. According to the standards of the Fleet and Mobility study center, in Italy there are 800 thousand rental cars, alongside the million acquired by companies and destined as benefits to their employees. In short, a limited share of the circulating park but not so small.
Company cars, possible tax rescheduling
The risk of an increase in taxation for the employee who has such vehicles could remove the lifeblood from the market for new registrations. This explains why, again according to the study center quoted above: “If these machines were transferred to the ownership of employees as private citizens, their turnover would increase to 7 years, lowering the relative registrations to below 300 thousand units. This is a car market crash of almost 16%. To these numbers must be added the lower equipment of the fleets of short-term charterers, the rent-a-car, since 11% of their activity is absorbed by the long-term rental, for replacement activities ".
Moreover it cannot be denied that, with the current tax regime, in the old continent the average level of taxation charged to workers is around 50 percent. A threshold that Italy could reach, and exceed, only if the new measure enters into force. In fact, Italy currently has a particularly favorable regime, which does not affect company car owners. Which are indeed encouraged to travel more kilometers, using the car in their free time.
