United States: the good numbers of lotto found by … 1,400 people

Lucky ones galore. In South Carolina, a state in the southeastern United States, a record has fallen. Nearly 1,400 people have recently found the right numbers for the local lotto. They were well helped by the draw, which came out an extraordinarily simple combination: 2-2-2-2.

The big-lot will be a little smaller than expected. These 1,400 lucky people will share 3.4 million dollars (3.1 million euros), which means that each will receive between 2,000 dollars (1,800 euros) and 5,000 dollars (4,500 euros), depending on the amount played and the number of tickets purchased. A winner will for example cash not less than 80,000 dollars (72,900 euros), after buying sixteen tickets with the right combination.

A record that gave rise to a comical scene in the streets of Columbia, the capital of South Carolina. A huge queue was formed Monday, September 30 before the offices of the lottery company, the 1,400 winners all looking for their earnings at the same time. Fans and water were distributed to them while they were waiting in the heat.

On this occasion, several winners told the US media why they had bet on a quadruple 2. Some said they bet on this combination "for years", while another explained that these figures corresponded to his date of birth (February 22, 22/2).

This is not the first time such an incongruity has occurred. In 2012, a quadruple 2 had already fallen in South Carolina, found by 650 people. More recently, last June, more than 2,000 people in North Carolina shared $ 7.8 million (7.1 million), after a draw that gave the combination 0-0-0-0.
