On our platform, we received Vincent Bayer, spokesperson for SNCB. He explains that on the SNCB side, they worked a lot for an alternative transport plan. In addition, teams will be strengthened on site to help travelers.
For information, during peak hours and during the week, 300 trains pass through this junction Nord-Midi. Thanks to the alternative transport plan that was developed by SNCB, they managed to keep 85% of these 300 trains.
A maximum of preserved trains
A maximum of trains have been preserved, but there are still some that have been deleted. In total, 12 trains each day will be deleted, but they cover all of Belgium.
More specifically on Wallonia, this concerns two trains, one in the morning and one in the evening. That's about 15% of trains that will be deleted or diverted. For these deviated trains, 35 will bypass the junction and propose to go down in a station alternative to the usual stations.
Still according to Vincent Bayer, it will probably be expected some punctuality problems due to these circumstances. Although the goal of SNCB is to minimize this, knowing that a deviated route always takes a little longer than a normal trip.
End of work scheduled for November 11
As far as SNCB is concerned, they say they did everything to ensure that the work did not last longer than planned, ie on 11 November. Also note that there will be two extended weekends in November during which there will be heavy work.
The announcement concerning the work of the SNCB was put in place at the end of last month on the screens in the trains, on the screens in the train stations and on the SNCB website. Moreover, if you are to take the train soon, do not hesitate to consult this site. All changes are specified in great detail.
Finally, Vincent Bayer reassures all travelers, because on Monday, it will not be chaos on track! (At least, they did everything to …).
