Renault renounces the appeal for exclusion in Japan – F1 Team – Formula 1

The Renault cars of Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg have been excluded from the order of arrival of the Japanese Grand Prix for violating the sports regulation – but not the technical one – regarding driving aids. The case had been raised by the Racing Point, which had provided the FIA ​​with a detailed dossier on the matter, hypothesizing a braking system pre-set and managed via GPS. The Commissioners, after analyzing the data of the two single-seaters, denied the infringement suggested by the rival team, but confirmed an illegal driving aid. There Renault he had until today to present the appeal, but he gave up, as announced in the official note:

"We regret the decision of the Commissioners and, in particular, the gravity of the sanction applied. In our opinion, the sanction is not proportionate to any benefit derived from the pilots, especially if used in the context of a fully judged and innovative system. It is also incompatible with the previous sanctions imposed for similar violations, as recognized by the Steward in their decision, communicated without further arguments. However, since we have no new evidence to supply other than those already produced to demonstrate the legality of our system, we do not wish to invest additional time and effort in a sterile debate before the International Court of Appeals regarding a subjective judgment and a sanction, relative to a help that reduces the work of the pilots without improving the performance of the car.

Therefore we have decided not to appeal to the decision of the Commissioners. Formula 1 will always be an arena for the continuous search for minimal opportunities for improvement. This is what we have always done and will continue to do, although we intend to strengthen internal procedures before bringing an innovative solution to the track".
