Paris (awp / afp) – The traffic of Paris airports in September remained almost stable compared to the same period in 2018 due to the closure of the Orly main runway and the bankruptcy of Aigle Azur, announced Monday their manager ADP Group.
"Traffic was up 0.4%" and altogether "9.4 million passengers were welcomed, including 6.8 million at Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle (+ 4.8%) and 2, 6 million in Paris-Orly (-9.5%), "the group said in a statement.
The sharp drop in traffic at Paris-Orly is linked to "the closure for work on the main runway of Orly, as well as the effects of the bankruptcy of the Aigle Azur company which ceased all its activities on September 6", he added.
International traffic, excluding Europe, increased (+ 0.8%) with a strong increase in North America (+ 6%) and good growth on Dom-Com (overseas departments and communities , + 3.5%) and Latin America (+ 2.2%).
In contrast, Africa is down (-2.8%), as is the Middle East (-2.5%) and Asia-Pacific (-1.5%).
Europe traffic (excluding France) was up 1.2%, but in France, it was down 3%.
The number of connecting passengers increased by 4.4%.
Since the beginning of the year, traffic at Paris Aeroport has increased by 3.4%, with a growth target set between 2.5% and 3% for 2019.
The traffic of the Turkish group TAV Airports, of which ADP Group holds a 46.1% stake, is down 37.6% in September, following the transfer of commercial flights from Istanbul Ataturk to the new Istanbul airport since April 6 and the loss of its operation by TAV Airports.
Outside Istanbul Ataturk, TAV Airports' traffic is up 1.1% year-to-date in the ten airports it manages, according to ADP.
Traffic at the Santiago de Chile airport, in which ADP Group holds 45% of the capital, is up 8.6% over the month and that of Amman, of which ADP Group holds 51% of the capital, is growing 1.9%.
