NHL: John Carlson added three assists at an early start to the Capitals' season

            <p>WASHINGTON - John Carlson added three assists at an amazing start to the season, helping the Washington Capitals win 5-2 against the New York Rangers.

T.J. Oshie has two power play goals. Carlson has been an accomplice both times, as well as contributing to Michal Kempny's net.

Carlson and Connor McDavid lead the league with 17 points; Carlson is at the top of the circuit for the assists, with 14.

In seven games, Carlson scored more than one point in six of them.

Nic Dowd and Garnet Hatahway were the other Capitals scorers, while Braden Holtby made 26 saves.

Pavel Buchnevich and Artemi Panarin scored for the Rangers, beaten in their last three meetings. Henrik Lundqvist blocked 29 pucks.

The faceoff (with a baseball) was made by Max Scherzer of the Nationals. They reached the World Series for the first time in their history.
