The landing strip was renovated and a new tunnel was built in the commercial areas. By 2021 "smart security" technologies will be positioned

New technologies by 2021 – Although it has been reopened to travelers, Linate will not completely close the construction sites. It plans to become one of the most technological airports in Europe by 2021. The first novelty will be the positioning in the entire structure of “Tac” machinery, which will replace the old X-rays. It is a smart security technology, able to examine the contents of passengers' luggage faster and more accurately.
Everything will be simpler and faster: no more queues at the gates for the separate control of computers and electronic devices and liquids in packs of more than 100 ml, usually forbidden, can also be loaded into hand luggage. The construction of an additional building is also planned for 2021.
The company SEA, which manages the Milan airport system, will put 14 million on the plate for this long-term project. In addition to the 50 million invested in recent works.

At the inauguration the mayor Giuseppe Sala – Passengers who have landed at Linate in the late afternoon, the first since the airport was closed, have been given a super welcome: present the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Paola De Micheli, the mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala, the CEO of Sea, Armando Brunini and Michaela Castelli and the heads of ENAC (the Italian Civil Aviation Authority). The inauguration was accompanied by toast and cake.
