It is now possible to pass the Highway Code in high school

The academy of Amiens launched, officially, this Thursday, the teaching of the Highway Code in the high schools, an experienced national first in Thierache. In this rural area, "access to employment is made difficult" for young people without a permit because of the "lack of transport infrastructure".

This teaching, which will benefit about 900 students for the year 2019/2020, was promised by President Emmanuel Macron in November 2018, during his commemorative tour of the Great War marked by numerous arrests on the price of fuel and the purchasing power.

In partnership with driving schools

In Thierache, where the unemployment rate reached 15.1%, "the teaching of the Highway Code becomes possible in second class and also in first-year class of apprenticeship", specify in a joint statement the prefecture, the Academy, and the Hauts-de-France region. The passing of the exam should also take place in the "school setting".

Eight schools in the department of Aisne – from the Lycee General de Hirson, to the vocational school Francoise Dolto in Guise via the family home and rural Beauregard or apprentice training center of La Capelle – offer this training in partnership with five driving schools, chosen after calls for projects launched by the regional council.

A code at 30 euros

"Funding is provided equally by the State and the Region, only the cost of registration for the examination of the Highway Code will be borne by young high school students and apprentices, or 30 euros," said the statement.

Students will have training sessions on the Highway Code during extracurricular time. "The driving schools will come in pedagogical support within the institutions and validate the achievements of young people before presentation to the exam, explains the academy. Assistance in preparing for the proposed exam will be provided by volunteers in civic service.
