It's a surprise this American mother did not expect. As she explained to CNN, Holly Persic called her husband to warn him that a strange smell was coming from the engine of his SUV. He advised him to open the hood to see if anything was wrong. What was his surprise to discover that the engine compartment had been transformed … into a real pantry for rodents.
200 nuts and tufts of grass
Indeed, it is not less than 200 nuts and tufts of grass that had been stored in the hood of the Persic car, by one or more squirrels, probably in anticipation of the coming winter. "There was everywhere, under the battery, near the radiator," Chris Persic told the US channel. "The nuts on the engine block were black and smelled as if they were grilling," he continued. Hence the smell of burning.
The engine not damaged
The couple took over an hour to clean everything up. Luckily, the squirrel or squirrels did not damage the vehicle's engine. Chris Persic believes that rodents have achieved this "feat" fast enough because the first nuts fell only a few weeks ago in the region. His wife had not noticed anything.
