The former Benfica and Sporting striker, who died on Friday at 67, was notably known for his double against France in the semifinals of Euro 84.
The Portuguese hospital in Cascais confirmed Friday the death of Jordao, 67, who had been admitted to the facility because of heart problems. The striker, born in Benguela (Angola), started his career in Benfica, Portugal, during the 1971-1972 season, and was the first to be named the "new Eusebio" before being transferred to Sporting Portugal .
Six-time champion of Portugal
He played 43 games in the national team, scoring 15 goals, including a one-two win over France in the semi-finals of Euro 1984 (3-2 a.p. for France). Jordao also played in Zaragoza and Vitoria Setubal, where he completed his career in 1988-1989. Top scorer of the Portuguese Championship in 1975-1976 and 1979-1980, he was crowned six times champion and won four Portuguese Cups. After his career, he became a painter.
