John Carlson had three assists and the Washington Capitals defeated the New York Rangers 5-2 on Friday at the Verizon Center.

Carlson knows a month of October of thunder. The defenseman already has 17 points in his record in nine games and is dangerously close to the best monthly total for a back of the "Caps". Mike Green had 20 points in February 2009 to set this record. There are still five meetings in Carlson in October to beat this mark.

T.J. Oshie (twice), Michal Kempny, Nic Dowd and Garnet Hathaway (wild net) were the markers for the Capitals in this game. In the defeat, Mika Zibanejad was an accomplice of the goals of Pavel Buchnevich and Artemi Panarin to bring his counter to 10 points in just five games.

Braden Holtby was the winning goalkeeper, stopping 26 pucks.

A fifth in a row for the Pens

In Pittsburgh, the Penguins came out strongly in the third period to reap a fifth consecutive win. Mike Sullivan's men won 3-2 against the Dallas Stars.

Patric Hornqvist and Kristopher Letang scored one after the other during the last stint to put the Penguins in the driver's seat.

Letang showed great patience with the puck for his goal. He waited for two defenders to slip in front of his feints, thinking he was going to try a pass, before calmly defeating Anton Khudobin under his right leggings. The Quebec defender added another goal in a net desert.

John Klingberg closed the gap for the Stars late in the game, but goaltender Matt Murray held the fort. The Ontarian faced 24 shots during the game.

Andre Burakovsky propels the Avalanche

In Sunrise, Andre Burakovsky scored twice and earned an assist on the Colorado Avalanche's winning goal, which beat the Florida Panthers 5-4.

The 24-year-old striker tied the score twice at the match. His second goal is the one who sent the Avalanche in overtime. Nathan MacKinnon made the victory of Colorado, helped by Burakovsky.

Joonas Donskoi also offered a three-point performance. In defeat, Jonathan Huberdeau of Quebec beat goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer twice.
