A young Briton created Free Trial Surfing, an app that helps you avoid unwanted charges to your credit or debit card, because it automatically cancels your subscriptions when the end of your free trial period comes.
The app was created by Joshua Browder, who realized that it is very common for people to forget the deadline for free trials and end up paying for a service they do not really want, as it happened with a gym subscription that never used
"Trying to keep track of when a free trial period ends is annoying and time-consuming," he told the BBC
How does it work?
Although Free Trial Surfing works thanks to the association with a bank (whose name the creator did not want to reveal), the app does not link to the user's account, but instead grants a virtual credit card number and an invented name It works until the trial period ends.
The card is registered in the name of Josh Browder and is designed to be rejected if someone tries to make other payments.
According to the creator, it took six months to get the app to work properly and so far more than 10,000 people have downloaded it to test it.
Browder explained that most of the people who have downloaded their app, use it to try Netflix and some pornography sites, likewise, said that some platforms are trying to block it, but have not been able to detect virtual accounts.
So far, Free Trial Surfing is available in beta for iOS in the United States, but the creator does not rule out that it will soon arrive in other countries and that at some point it will be paid.
