Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Virgil Van Dijk are the three finalists for the Fifa Best Award, which will be presented on 23 September in Milan, FIFA announced on Monday.
The trio of finalists is the same as the UEFA Player of the Year award, which has just been awarded to the Dutch defender from Liverpool, winner of the Champions League with his club.
The laureate is nominated by a vote of captains and coaches of national teams, as well as supporters and journalists. The award will take place on 23 September at the famous Scala in Milan.

On the women's side, the three finalists are American women Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, world champions this summer in France, and the British Lucy Bronze, who plays in club at Olympique Lyonnais.
The three designated male coaches all work in England, but are not English. They are Jürgen Klopp, winner of the Champions League with Liverpool, Mauricio Pochettino, unhappy finalist of the C1 with Tottenham, and Pep Guardiola (Manchester City).
For the women's teams, the three technicians selected are Jill Ellis, USA coach, Phil Neville, England coach, and Netherlands coach Sarina Wiegman.
