At the time of standards and CO2 hunt, difficult for manufacturers not to go through the box electrification within their range, in order to escape the fine that hangs from their nose in case of exceeding the limit set by the European Union. Kia has understood this and is showing a good lead in this area, with a catalog already composed of hybrid and electric models, like the Niro and the new e-Soul, revealed at the last Mondial de Paris. Now, the Korean brand enriches its offer with two new rechargeable hybrid models, the Ceed SW, as well as the all-new XCeed SUV, presented a few months ago. A motorization in which the builder believes a lot, whereasa Kia vehicle out of seven sold in Europe since the beginning of the year is an electrified model.

If these Ceed SW and XCeed keep a style very close to their respective thermal versions, they are however distinguished by some specific attributes, in addition to the charging socket located in the left front wing. Indeed, the presence of a new Tiger Nose grille designed to improve aerodynamics and limit fuel consumption, while new 16 inch rims make their arrival to the catalog. For its part, the station also benefits from "eco plug-in" badges, as well as from the radiator grille. Ceed SW GT-Line, giving it a more dynamic style. Inside, the presentation remains the same as the thermal versions, although new features, including a charging indicator, and a help to locate the terminals are now emerging. Thetouch screen from 8 to 10.25 inches depending on the finish is here, as well as the optional digital handset. In contrast, the chest suffers a small loss of volume, and this for both models.

Launch next year

You'll understand, this is what lies under the hood of these new Kia Ceed SW and Xceed remains the most interesting. The station wagon and the small SUV embark on a new hybrid rechargeable powertrain, combining a 44.5 kW electric motor with four-cylinder 1.6 liter petrol, offering a cumulative power of 141 horses for 265 Nm of torque. Combined with a dual-clutch transmission and six gears, the set allows the two new features to cut the 0 to 100 km / h respectively 10.8 and 11 seconds. With a 8.9 kWh batteryboth models can travel about 60 km in all-electric modewhile braking energy recovery saves a bit of autonomy, especially in the city. Finally, and as stipulated in the law since last July, the VESS system (Virtual Engine Sound System) generates a sound allowing pedestrians to hear the vehicle arrive when it circulates in electric mode at low speed.

Products in the Slovak factory of Zilina, Kia Ceed SW and Hybrid Xceed will be the first models manufactured by the manufacturer in Europe to benefit from a rechargeable hybrid engine. Reserved for the Old Continent, they will be launched in concessions early next year.
