Japan revises its GDP for the second quarter and puts it at 1.3%
Tokyo, Sep 9 (.) .- The Government of Japan revised downward today the increase in gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period of 2018 and placed it at 1.3%, five tenths less than the figure released a month ago.
Compared to the first quarter of this year, in the period between April and June, GDP grew 0.3%, one tenth less than the figure released on August 9.
The downward revision of GDP was mainly linked to a modification in non-residential private investments, since in the first calculation they were placed with an increase of 1.5% and the new data indicates a much smaller positive evolution, of 0, two %.
Japan closed 2018 with a 0.8% increase in its GDP, below the 1.9 recorded in 2017.
The Japanese authorities expect for this year and the next one a moderate recovery in economic activity, which has been affected, among other factors, by the slowdown of the Chinese economy, the main trading partner of Japan.
The Bank of Japan (BOJ) estimates that in fiscal year 2019, which began last April, Japan will have a 0.7% increase in its GDP, while in 2020 it calculates that it will reach 0.9%.
