The Honda automaker announced Friday that the production of the HR-V crossover that was divided between the El Salto, Jalisco and Celaya, Guanajuato plants will be concentrated only in the latter location.
With this modification in their plans, The Jalisco plant will focus its operations on motorcycle production, strength products and spare parts.
According to the corporate, this decision will not imply dismissals of its workforce and will be effective from the first months of the year 2020.
The operational modification is intended to "optimize the structure of Honda's automobile manufacturing in Mexico, as well as to improve the company's commercial efficiency," according to the statement.
This is the second modification to Honda's strategy this year that impacts its operations in Jalisco, after last June they had already announced that in October 2019 they would close one of the two shifts of production of the HR-V model.
The Honda plant in Celaya has an annual production capacity of 200 thousand units and from the change hence all HR-V and Fit models for the Mexican market will come out and for export to various countries of the world.
