Washington – Hurricane Dorian recovered category 3 on Wednesday -from a maximum of 5 on the Saffir-Simpson intensity scale- with winds of up to 110 miles per hour in its slow advance towards the east coast of the United States, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

According to the latest NHC bulletin at 11:00 pm, the Dorian Eye is located 105 miles south of Charleston (South Carolina) and 225 miles south-southwest of Wilmington (North Carolina) and moves north at a speed of 11 kilometers per hour.

NHC meteorologists warned that Dorian can bring "life-threatening" storms on the US coast over the next two days.

According to the prediction, the eye of the hurricane will continue moving northward for the next few hours until it turns northeast next night. Along this path, it could reach land at some point on the Carolinas coast.

Dorian, which so far has not caused deaths or havoc in the United States, has increased in recent hours its maximum sustained winds from 105 to 115 miles per hour.

The cyclone impacted during the weekend with intensity 5 – the maximum – on the northern islands of the Bahamas archipelago, especially the Abaco and Grand Bahama islands, on which it remained for more than 24 hours in an unusual phenomenon, generating chaos and great destruction.

According to the latest balance of the Bahamian authorities, 20 people died on those islands as a result of Dorian, although it is expected to increase as the emergency teams reach new devastated areas.

UN humanitarian chief Mark Lowcock said Wednesday that Dorian has had a "huge" impact on the Bahamas and also said the Caribbean country "has never seen anything of this scale."
