This was reported by Orlando Viera Blanco, Ambassador of Venezuela in Canada, who also assured that the decision had been made after several months of work with Immigration Canada, Global Affairs (GAC) and the Ministry of Border Security.
"This resolution automatically extends the full validity of all passports issued to date for five years, a term that will begin to be charged from the expiration date of the passport," Viera Blanco said.
According to the ambassador, Venezuelan passport holders who want to travel or stay in Canada can now continue using their passports if they expire soon or if they have expired for less than 5 years.
“We are very satisfied and very grateful to Canada. It is a very important achievement for Venezuelans living in this country or for those who want to visit it, "said Viera Blanco.
According to the press release of the Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada (IRCC) issued on August 19, with this resolution Venezuelans can use passports to apply for a visitor's visa, study permit or work, obtain permanent residence or extend your stay.
To make it effective, applicants must meet all the eligibility requirements, when they enter and stay within that country.
The Venezuelan Ambassador to Canada affirms that the decision has been "the product of coordinated and persevering work between our diplomatic representation and local authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, which provides a solution to a serious identity problem for Venezuelans and their interest in maintaining their status migratory under strict legality ”.
It was also informed that Venezuelans who are interested in traveling to other countries should contact the Embassy of the destination in question to know the specific travel requirements.
