The victim lost his life in the hospital because of a serious infection.

David Ireland, A 50-year-old American, died from a serious infection caused by a carnivorous bacterium. Despite the efforts of doctors, he could not fight the disease and died on August 29 at a hospital in Orlando, Florida, United States, according to his recently published online obituary.

The Yankee, the father of two girls, began presenting flu symptoms on August 16, and five days later, with extreme pain in his leg and groin, he was rushed to the hospital. There, he was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis: the serious bacterial infection that destroys the tissue under the skin. The patient was immediately sent to the operating room.

The doctors removed the man more than a quarter of the skin to try to stop the infection, but nevertheless, as a result of the intoxication of the organism, his kidneys collapsed.

Ireland underwent various surgeries. The last one was scheduled for August 27. "His hands and feet could be amputated, if he survives," said his wife, Jody Ireland, on the eve of this intervention. According to the woman, David had an open wound in his leg through which he contracted the infection, which worsened because he suffered from diabetes.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a strange bacterial infection that spreads rapidly through the body. One in three people who suffer from it dies, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Among the main symptoms are: fever, dizziness or nausea shortly after an injury or surgery.
