Ferrovial and Acciona have completed the commissioning of the ring road of the Australian city of Toowoomba, a project that was awarded in the summer of 2015 and has involved an investment of about 1,100 million euros, according to the companies.

This is the first road contract that the group headed by Rafael del Pino achieved in the country, strategic for both this company and for the one chaired by José Manuel Entrecanales, which has been present in this market since 2002.

The consortium led by the two Spanish companies, and which completes Plenary Group, has opened the final section of this road after commissioning a first part of it in December 2018.

The construction and subsequent operation and maintenance contract for 25 years of the Toowoomba beltway constitutes the largest road project undertaken in the Australian state of Queensland.

The 41-kilometer highway, which runs through a mountain range, will improve traffic in the region by preventing vehicles from passing through the city.

The road includes an 800-meter viaduct to circumvent a railroad track and a cut in the mountain to avoid the alternative of building a tunnel that allows large vehicles to circulate or transport dangerous goods.

The design and construction of the highway has been carried out by Ferrovial and Acciona, while Broadspectrum, an Australian services subsidiary of the Del Pino family group, will now be responsible for its operation and maintenance.
