- Do you know what a biomodel is? They are 3D designs that allow replicating parts of the human body and are used to plan and test complex surgeries.
Ocular 3D and Plan 3D, both companies in the V region supported by Corfo Chile, signed an agreement for the development of medical solutions collaboratively. This adds to the multiple services that Ocular3D already offers.
How can complex surgery be tried? As technology advances, medicine goes hand in hand with this walk and without a doubt being able to resolve an intervention to a patient, before taking it to the pavilion, it could be one of the great revolutions in these times of constant changes.
The solution to this problem came, nothing less than from the world of three-dimensional printing, and it is one of the lines that Ocular 3D works – a company dedicated to the field of prints -, which together with 3D Plan – a company focused on design and production of physical and digital biomodels – they have developed simulation biomodels (bone / soft tissues) and surgical guides to test high complexity operations.
This translates into the real and concrete possibility of 3D printing a human body, absolutely personalized, that allows you to study it better and reach a solution, before a complex surgery.
Javier Castro, CEO of Ocular 3D, notes that “Currently our main areas are those that are dedicated to the development of medical biomodels and educational entities" In the same way, Castro adds that they also open up to a variety of items related to printing.
"We are constantly venturing into new markets such as merchandising, food, beverage and mechanics development companies".
Who achieves this breakthrough? Ocular 3D – entrepreneurship supported by the 3M Institute of the USM – stands out for constant innovation, focused on the development of new products and services to offer its customers, from the manufacture of simple objects to more complex engravings, in order to deliver a comprehensive solution that allows users to live a unique experience with 3D printing.
3D printers are usually designed to print on one type of material, but Ocular 3D stands out from the competition by offering a multifunctional 3D printer, that is, with the ability to change heads and thus obtain new functionalities.
In the same way, it has multicolored 3D printing, laser engraving and CNC milling (carving technique), among other innovative production processes. They also offer technical service, rental of machines and training, providing customers with a wide range of solutions to their needs.
