The President of the Canada Winter Games in Bathurst and Campbellton has passed away

Known in the business community as a general insurance contractor, Brian Theede has left his mark on the city of Campbellton throughout Restigouche through his community involvement. It is no coincidence that the City of Campbellton has designated one of its buildings on its behalf.

Vice President of Finance for the Canada Winter Games Host Society in 2003, Yves Gagnon regularly worked with Theede for nearly eight years on this great adventure. And he keeps an excellent memory.

"We are all very sad about this news. Although he was not very active lately, less visible in the community, it remains a heavy loss for the region, "says Mr. Gagnon.

"When I think of Brian, the word that comes to my mind is ambassador. Because that's exactly what it was for the region, but also for bilingualism. Ironically, he spoke little French, but he was keen to ensure that both linguistic communities were also represented at the Games and in the organization of the Games. He wanted to make it the most bilingual games ever presented and, to date, I believe they are still the reference, "continues Mr. Gagnon.

Theede was inducted into the Campbellton Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 as a "builder" following his involvement with the Canada Winter Games.

In addition to his involvement with the 2003 Winter Games, he is also considered a pillar of the Campbellton community, having invested on many levels, including as President of the Chamber of Commerce, the Salmon Festival and of the defunct Industrial Commission.

The mayor of Campbellton, Stéphanie Anglehart-Paulin, did not personally know Mr. Theede. That said, she is well aware of her accomplishments and community involvement.

"He was an excellent manager, a person with the ability to bring people together around the same goal, the same vision. We have seen it with the Canada Games, but also with other organizations. Dedicated people like that for their community is a real gift, "says the mayor.

A celebration will be held in honor of Mr. Theede next Monday afternoon at the Mahers Funeral Home Chapel in Campbellton.
