In 2019, construction is once again down, which causes a lack of housing in France. "Between August 2018 and July 2019, 409,000 homes were started, almost 20,000 less than the same time last year. The single-family homes are the most impacted", explains Justine Weyl on the set of the 20 hours of France 2, before adding: "Same for building permits: 29,300 less over one year, a drop of more than 6%."

Why this drop? "First of all because of the municipal elections of 2020. A few months before the elections, the mayors are more reluctant to issue permits, who would vote for the one who has just had a big building built in front of its windows?", details the journalist. "There are also according to the promoters, the recourse that would be very numerous. And third brake, the difficulty to find companies of the building to launch these building sites", Justine Weyl.
