An exquisite fresco on Morocco of peace and tolerance marked the opening ceremony of the 12th edition of the African Games, chaired Monday evening in Rabat, by His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid.
Marking the start of the 12th African Games, which are spread over a dozen days, this night ceremony, exalted, in sound and light, the African colors on the Moroccan soil through the participation of hundreds of young people and children chaining various dances and choreographies forming a circle around the reconstructed Hassan Tower in the heart of the stadium specifically for the show.
This show was enhanced by beautiful frescoes supported by a series of paintings symbolizing both the diverse nature of the Moroccan Kingdom, its artistic and cultural wealth, and celebrating the colors of the Moroccan flag, the 20 years of reign of HM King Mohammed VI and the African rooting of Morocco.
The ceremony was punctuated by the usual parade of athletes representing all the countries taking part in this high mass of the continental sport. In a speech on this occasion, the President of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, paid tribute to the efforts made by the Moroccan authorities "to offer to these Games an appropriate framework that reflects on the one hand history of this beautiful nation and on the other hand the permanent concern of HM King Mohammed VI to promote the identity of Africa ".
Mr. Faki Mahamat expressed admiration for the quality of the preparation of this great sports competition in just 9 months, saying that this feat is worthy of the great nations. The President of the African Union Commission has highlighted the enthusiasm around this continental event of which 17 events are qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games, noting that the number of participants is estimated at 6000 people.
On the rhythms of "Happy Birthday" and "Welcome Africa", the singer RedOne, accompanied by a skewer of artists, closed in apotheosis the spectacle of one hour marking the kick-off of the African Games.
Placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, the 12th edition of the African Games will be held in the cities of Rabat, Sale, Temara, Casablanca, Benslimane and El Jadida, with the participation of nearly 6,500 athletes.
Participants in the African Games will compete in kayaking, basketball, boxing, chess, football, gymnastics, handball, billiards, snooker and volleyball, in addition to qualifying games for the next Olympic Games, including the Olympic Games. athletics, swimming, beach volleyball, weightlifting, cycling, horse riding, judo.
