On the eve of the outbreak of the federal election campaign, Ottawa paid the bill to take care of irregular migrants arriving in Quebec in 2017 and 2018, including those who crossed Roxham Road.
The Legault government has announced that the federal government will provide "$ 250 million in financial compensation for the full costs of exceptional expenses incurred by refugee claimants for the years 2017 and 2018".
This is less than the $ 300 million claimed by Prime Minister François Legault last December, but much more than the $ 136 million offered by Ottawa at the time.
