The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Syrian authorities carried out a new exchange of prisoners with armed opposition groups in the countryside of Aleppo, which included 9 prisoners from each side.

"On 22 April in the city of Tadef, Aleppo, nine Syrian citizens held by armed opposition groups were attacked by 9 members of illegal armed groups," the Hamimim Center for Reconciliation of the Fighting Parties in Syria told the ministry in a statement.

The center said that the exchange process was carried out with the participation of representatives of the ministries of defense of Russia, Turkey and Iran in the framework of the activities of the working group that was formed as a result of the international meeting on Syria in Astana in 2017.

The statement added that the exchange took place in the presence of observers from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, as well as the director of the UN office in Damascus, Alaa Abdul Aziz.
