Removed the obligations that prevented pay-TV from acquiring exclusive rights for the internet platform
Yesterday’s ruling by the Lazio TAR removed the obligations imposed by the Antitrust Authority in the Sky Italia / R2 case. Obligations that prevented Sky from acquiring exclusive rights for the internet platform and would have limited their full participation in the next match for the assignment of Serie A TV rights. The ruling completely overturned the table by accepting various reasons for Sky’s appeal, defense from the Cleary Gottlieb studio. Just about TV rights will be discussed in the assembly of the Serie A League called for Thursday 12 March. Among the items on the agenda (in addition to the Coronavirus emergency and the communications from President Dal Pino), the invitation to submit proposals for the assignment of TV rights for the three-year period 2021-2024: the proposal from Mediapro also appears, just as the hypothesis of a League channel remains alive.
